steadfast

[musings from psalm 103]

steadfast you stay,
i chose left or right, the way.
for all of me,
steady you’ll be,
when wind and waves come
again to rattle me.
steady my frame,
you keep your word,
then change my name.

my hands are too small
to shape myself,
to hold myself,
comfort or strengthen myself.
these hands only tend to grasp,
only able to hold
what’s too limiting.
until a helpless, faithful cling,
becomes the very seed,
for my soul, and those mountains,
are now noticeably shifting.

you wring out my insides,
til dry and thirsty again.
now gently lower me, living water,
into this stirring pool.
rinse, wring, wash, repeat.
'til water overflows clear again.
renew a steadfast spirit,
clean heart, open hands,
and a mind operating in kind.
into your hands,
i commit, i consent, i relent,
your love coming for me,
i will let.

steadfast and vast,
high as heavens.
abiding far and wide,
east to west, your best.
beyond time, i’m yours, you're mine,
everlasting to everlasting.
steadfast,
what you’ve done and will do,
bless you, o my soul,
teach me what's true.
