sails
skating across water’s slate,
quiet early hours, before tides awake.
starting sheltered in the harbor,
after the storms of yesterday,
battered and broken, crumbled to shore.
recalling the dark depths winning,
sending bow and stern spinning.
desperate for anchor and shore,
taking on and spilling water,
not a sail, nor oar could find anymore.
now mended ropes, patched holes, this weathered boat,
new lift, over chaos, to new lands we float.
to fly the surface where waves once tossed,
lifting these sails bravely up and out,
finding again buoyancy, once thought all lost.
feel the wind in the sails again,
looking up, new journey to begin.
wonder, imagine the adventure, the far sea,
calling this repaired, redeemed, tattered ship,
the gift of a horizon,
with winds blowing kindly.
