i’ve been intrigued lately in what a job description would be for a mindset engineer. from what i have been browsing, it’s not really a thing actually. you won’t find listings on Indeed for this career path.
in classic outlier fashion - it makes me want to do it, to create it, to become one.

there is an element of interest coming from my background in engineering once-upon-a-time. then sprinkle in my fascination with high-performance, personal mastery, neuroscience, emotional intelligence, critical thinking, innovating, visioneering, etc (I could go on)…

so is this my dream job? or is it something I am already dabbling in for myself?

what would it look like to prepare, train, apprentice for this role if it were to exist at some point on my horizon?

so it starts with defining this role I would imagine.

let’s look at engineering*:

  • the creative application of science, mathematical methods, and empirical evidence to the innovation, design, construction, and maintenance of structures, machines, materials, devices, systems, processes, and organizations.

  • the action of working artfully to bring something about.

engineers stay curious, challenge norms/status quo, make something new, pioneer new territory/possibilities, all while addressing a need or improving an existing entity.

these descriptions resonate loud and clear with my personal mission to make things that move people and build things that build people…..so far so good….

next to the mindset piece. a close tie, i would imagine, would be mindset coaching*:

  • mindset coaching focuses on clients' existing beliefs and patterns of thinking, works to help clients recognize, question, and revise persistent patterns of thought.

  • mindset coaches are dedicated to rewiring an individual's mindset, allowing them to be the very best version of themselves and to unlock their full potential.

all of those elements are powerful pieces as well. and i can personally attest to the impact of rewiring thought patterns and limiting beliefs - a huge part of my story and marked turning points in my journey.

in my head, the jump from coaching to engineering is the jump from one-on-one or one-on-few conversations to systems and structure building. it’s the upstream building blocks and scaffolding of those conversations.
so what does that look like?

for the engineer the small details and the big picture matter, the pieces and the piecing together, the thinking and creating, it’s both-and.

the material properties of the building blocks affect the strength and success of the blueprinted structure.
the building blocks only perform in their proper way when pieced together correctly.
the design only has impact when created.

so i’d imagine the job description and scope of practice would involve:

  1. raw material identification

  2. blueprinting

  3. prototyping

  4. monitoring/measuring

  5. feedback

  6. iteration

with the mind in mind.

the undertones have been present in the headspace i’ve been steeped in. i know i am far from expertise in this space - i’m riding on pure curiosity and self-pursued musings at this point.

and yet, i can’t wait to explore more, journey with me?
