hometown trails

back on hometown trails,
with some old friends and new.
gifted with pops of color,
and a shower or two.
greeting the alpine pools
nestled in quiet solitude.
another day dancing with clouds,
left and right, we climb,
no shortage of views.

we’ve been here before,
but not like this.
familiar trails once welcomed and warm,
now hints of new, not to miss.
the weather blows cold drifts,
new seasons transform this wood.
what revealed now hidden
behind clouds, under layered leaves.
what shrouded now glimpsed,
through bare branches and crisp stillness.
left and right, the steady footfall,
no shortage of good.

wait and delight
for the promise of the far,
becomes the left-right rhythm
of feet on the path of near.
what we did or couldn’t here before,
both gifts and no matter.
we find new rain
has carved new trails.
abide and remain greet us all the same,
mercy and joy before,
to pioneer the new terrain.
left and right, onwards we carry,
no shortage of more.
