God convos

it seems easy to ask God questions like ‘why this?’, ‘why me?’, ‘what do i do?’, or probably most likely: ‘can i have….?’

i think there’s plenty of room to ask better questions of God or at least posture them differently.

for example: why me?

what if i actually, humbly asked God that question. and then actually listen for the answer. if God is writing my story - and writing it much better than i ever could – i should probably lean into why [that thing] is a part of the narrative.

we’ve learned from Adam and Eve that attempting to achieve the knowledge of good and evil is outside our "humanness". so, leaving that to God, maybe i should ask Him, ‘what’s the good here?’ or for [that thing] i keep trying to write into my story, keep inserting into the rough draft after God keeps marking it out, maybe i ask Him, ‘what’s not good here?’

there’s room and space and invitation to ask God much richer questions:

where are you in this?
what are you doing?
what are you teaching me?
what are you inviting me to?
what can i know about you on this side of [that] that i didn’t know before?
what does healing/redemption look like here?

those answers are game changers. and i think God enjoys answering those.

ask. seek. knock.

create margin. listen for answers.
then comes more questions.
the convo flips.
what is God asking me?

where are you? (gen 3)
what are you doing here? (1 kings 19)
who told you that? (gen 3)
what do you want? (matthew 20)
what are you looking for? (john 1)
do you want to be healed? (john 5)
what is in your hand? (ex 4)
who do you say i am? (matthew 16)
do you love me? (john 21)

i think we have lots to talk about.
call it gut check. inventory. self-reflection.
or maybe it’s patience. presence. love.
