enlighten
have mercy,
teach me to see.
i want to see,
with clarity to the close,
with reach to the far.
i want to see,
what’s not to dismiss,
willing to look at the hard
with same curiosity as the bliss.
i want to see,
the workings below the surface,
and those that hover above it.
i want to see,
yes, what to do,
but truly actually you.
i want to see,
the workings of your hand,
the prints of your feet.
i want to see,
actually beyond your remnants or evidence,
but simply, living presence.
perhaps if i see your face,
there we’ll enter a new space.
perhaps if i see what’s to be shown,
there will be new depth to what’s known.
maybe for now i don’t see,
because i don’t know how.
maybe i don’t see,
because steeply down
my gaze is bowed.
maybe i don’t see,
because the depth of aperature
is miscalibrated.
maybe i don’t see,
because my interpretation accuracy
still deliberated.
maybe i don’t see,
because orientation and inclination
i fail to properly steer.
maybe i don’t see,
because it’s better if i don’t,
and i know you do.
maybe i don't see,
because there are other ways
to know you’re near,
you’re here.
have mercy,
teach me to be.
