breathe in, breathe out.
new capacity, via new stretching.
gasp again, o lungs,
for the new thing being done,
there is air to be had right now,
nutrients to take in,
exhaust to release,
in and out.

blink one, two,
look up to new heights.
search again, o eyes,
those mountains in the distance,
summited first via a single step,
you know enough for the next,
step one, two.

trust the training,
dare to enjoy it.
contract again, o muscles,
notice the burning, forming, growing,
next motion stacking on the previous.
a breaking down for building up,
the trials of these fibers,
programmed by a trainer who knows,
there’s enough to pass the test.
flex, extend, again, again.

don’t rush the ascent,
no matter how big the mountain that looms.
stay sober, o mind,
the higher the objective,
the longer, slower the journey.
don’t skip acclimatizing,
sprinkling a taste to test the insides,
stretch and ready the systems.
do i know how to inhale different air?
exist in different atmosphere?
going low doesn’t mean going home,
just a restart before the next ascent,
a restoration required,
for the installation of the training,
and an invitation towards beyond.
down, up, down, up.

slow down, speed up.
pace transitions all calibrated,
in this training.
rest easy, o heart.
ascend, descend in time,
beat by beat on rhythm and rhyme.
atrium, ventricle, right, left.

appreciate the build,
see how far you’ve come.
something’s alive again, o spirit.
endurance, faith, hope,
pulsing for air again,
fed little by little,
beat by beat, breath by breath.
noting new obstacles as new stretches of strength,
new climate as new ground taken,
enduring for the joy set before.
so don’t miss the flowers,
see what’s growing,
take in the views.
yes, someday there may be a summit,
and yet today, see the many peaks,
life where my feet are.
left, right, left, right.
