focus photo of brown sand

standing on the sideline,
when i want in the game.
waiting for the call,
yet i don’t hear my name.

forced to sit and wait,
allowed only the still.
while the world around swirls,
more, than less, not my will.

longing for green pastures,
yet in the sand my foot sits.
days burn, nights dark.
wondering in this climate,
what fits?

still i’d choose this tent dwelling,
over going back there.
the desert has new potency,
a different mountaintop to share.

in sickness and health,
i’m simply at yes.
for better, even still,
your bride, again, you will dress.
