darkness not overcome
there was a shadow,
small yet near,
edges sharp to trace.
now sun hangs low,
the shadow stretches,
borders reach a different place.
‘til time and pupils grow,
the dark companion exhales and fades,
swallowed by the blanketing darkness faced.
oh night,
this helpless place,
at crawling pace,
we’re cold and dark again.
now there is a light,
small yet coming near,
starting low, from dirt and ground.
this day now winning the fight,
shadows shrinking back again,
warmth chasing from light round.
‘til noonday, no shadow in sight,
darkness once common companion,
bows and melts to light abound.
oh day,
this hallowed place,
at perfect pace,
please bring life and light again.
